Scoring a Game of Netball

The team that starts the game with the first centre pass starts on EVENS.

As the game starts at 0-0 the total of the score comes to an even number. Please put an E in the box for the team that has the first centre pass and an O in the box of the opponent.

E

O

Red Team        Blue Team

In this example Reds have the first centre pass.

The umpire will signal when a goal is scored by raising their hand.

Add a goal to the team that scored to the scoresheet and turn over a number

on the score board.

When recording the scores please cross out the previous number of goals and write the next number as shown below:

E

O

1 2 3 4 5 6

1 2 3 4

Red Team        Blue Team

Please also ensure you call out the score before the next centre pass is taken so the teams and umpires know what the score is.

The Umpire may ask you who has the next centre pass. This can be worked out by adding the two scores together to find out if the total is an even or an odd number. If the score is 6 - 4 the total score comes to 10, so the team on even centre passes takes the next centre pass. In the above example it would be the Red team.

If the score is an odd number when added together then it would be the team taking the 'Odd' centres passes turn to take a centre pass.

At the end of the quarter the team that started on Evens now changes to Odds and visa versa.

EXCEPT - it does not change if a goal has just been scored at the end of the quarter and the next centre pass is not taken before the quarter time whistle is blown.

Bring down the scores into the next quarter box and circle each score. For example, the ball was in play during the last quarter.

Blue team will have the next centre pass when the 2nd quarter begins.

Continue scoring the game in the same way as the first quarter.

Repeat the process for each quarter.

Make sure you look out for the ‘no goal’ hand signal from the umpires to ensure you’re not recording goals that don’t count.

Write the final score in the boxes at the base of the score card, complete the results sheet with the final scores for each quarter and sign off both result sheets.

Leave both the score cards and results sheet on the table for the umpires to sign off.

Well done, you have completed the scoring for the game and have been a great assistance to the umpires.

Thank you
